Fans of claymation favorites Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run should set sail for The Pirates! Band of Misfits, a satire about Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) who has a dream to become Pirate of the Year. His efforts are fruitless (scurvily so) until he meets up with Charles Darwin and finds out he has priceless booty on board. However, cashing in proves to be more difficult than walking the plank.
ClearPlay In Action!
With jokes flying faster than a peg–legged parrot, there are bound to be some bawdy moments. ClearPlay cleans up the rude and crude references, and around 10 mild profanities. The remainder is family friendly, and a rare instance where parents may find it funnier than kids do.
Will Pirates make me shake my booty?…
The dry wit and droll humor of Pirates! will not make everybody laugh. But I found the images of pirates behaving in decidedly un–pirate-like fashion to be hil–Arrr–ious. The idea of a bloodthirsty lot yearning for approval, and celebrating things like “ham nite,” well, it worked for me. If their target was my funny bone, X marked the spot.
