Nanny McPhee Returns

….ugly warts and all!

Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) returns and this time it’s to an old farmhouse during a time of war. The family in need is one whose dad is away at war leaving just “mum” (Maggie Gyllenhaal) to tend to the farm, the local market store, and her three rambunctious children. Already feeling totally in-over-her-head, “mum’s” brother ships his niece and nephew to join her and the kids on the farm, insisting that it’s safer out in the country. But adding two city-spoiled, pretentious children to the mix will set the stars to align and leave Nanny Mcphee to teach five lessons of respect and manners. A job only Nanny McPhee can accomplish? Or is this a job that is too big for even her?

If you grew up loving Mary Poppins, then you’ll love Nanny McPhee! I loved the first Nanny McPhee and Emma Thompson delivers an award winning performance when she returns to the screen for a second time to help out a farm family during a time of war. One of the things that I loved about Nanny McPhee Returns is that I felt like I was in a candy store. The ultra-vibrant colors, the fresh camera angles, the whimsical characters, all make up for an experience similar to a trip to the candy store. It’s a film made for the whole family. The kids will enjoy it’s fantastical side comprised of talking animals, synchronized swimming piglets, and mud..lots of it. And the adults will enjoy the moral story that develops as Nanny McPhee teaches various lessons on manners, respect, and love. I have absolutely no negative remarks for this movie; I highly recommend it for families of all ages.
Motherly Advice: I had my filters set on medium and it was squeaky clean. Nanny McPhee Returns is refreshing in every way including the lack of scantily dressed women, alcohol, drugs, and swearing. I would recommend this movie for ages 5 and up.
