The Boy Who Lived…
The beginning of these great wizarding adventures starts with the 1st Harry Potter movie and another fun Family Movie Night!
Movie Snacks:
*Hagrid brings Harry a (slightly smashed) birthday cake in honor of his big 11th birthday. Enjoy some birthday cake and celebrate along with Harry.
*Harry has quite a bit of money in the Gringotts bank. Instead of facing goblins to get some of that gold, grab some chocolate gold coins instead.
*Harry and Ron enjoy lots of treats on the train like Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Chocolate Frogs and more. While there are licensed candies available out there, you can also add to the fun by making up your own.
*One their first night at Hogwarts and on holidays the students enjoy elaborate feasts. Serve your dinner like one from the Great Hall, with a little of everyone‘s favorite dish. Remember to decorate with lots of candles!
Must Pause Moments:
*When Harry receives his letter from Hogwarts, take a few minutes to write a letter of your own. Keep in touch with family or friends by letting your kids draw in a card.
*It’s hard for Harry to find just the right wand. Make wands of your own by decorating chopsticks or dowels. While you’re at it decorate or make some cone party hats to look like wizard hats.
*When Harry finds the Mirror of Erised take a little break and play Simon Says to see who is the best “reflection” in your family.
Other Activites:
*Dress up in classic Harry Potter accessories like robes, lightning bolt tattoo and glasses, or pick another character to copy-cat.
*Label different parts of your house after places in the movie. You can use Privet Drive, Platform 9 ¾, and Hogwarts.
*Whenever you get the chance ask your kids things like “What Quidditch position would you want to play?” or “If you had a three-headed pet, what kind would it be”. Let your family know you enjoy watching the movie, but the best part is spending time with them.
