Halloween Pic: Interview With The Vampire

I remember wanting to see this so bad in '94 when it came out. I was literally writhing in my seat every time I saw a preview because I knew I wouldn't be able to see it since it was 'R' rated. 17 years later I finally hunkered down with the hubby to enjoy this long awaited story. I  have to say I've been imagining it better in my head all these years.

In this film we follow the vampiric birth of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Bradd Pitt) and his life thereafter as a vampire with a moral conscience being raised by Lestat (Tom Cruise), a vampire with no morals or conscience...and all the chesty prostitutes (and rats) they eat in between. I didn't expect it but this movie is simply a character study about vampires. It was slow and heavily, but pretty well, filtered and superbly performed. You'll get a kick out of seeing 12 year old Kirsten Dunst giving her first (and last) great performance. But really Tom Cruise always steals the show, I've said it before and I'll say it again, the man is certifiably insane but he is a genius on the screen.

So, while I didn't hate the movie, I'll probably never watch it again because it was a long 2 hours but, if you feel so inclined to watch these actors back when they were young and less crazy go for it, but set your filters accordingly.

Motherly Advice: I had filters set on medium for the most part. With them as such I saw lots of people (mostly women with low cut dresses) get bitten and sucked dry, to be expected of a vampire movie I suppose. But the nature of each bite is typically very sexual, lets just be honest about this. There aren't any sex scenes but the majority of bites involving women depict these women enjoying themselves quite a bit. I was spared a bit of nudity and some disturbing 'plague' victims and most of the sound affects of each bite. I saw lots of bloody rat and bird carcasses and lots of blood. I'd suggest uping the sex and nudity filters to most and only watching this with adult kids and friends.
