Finally a Hidden Gem!
I think this one can go under the Halloween 'Family Movies' category AND the 'Anytime You Want to Watch a Super Fun and Magical Flick' category as well. This is one of those movies that has something for everyone without even having to try.
Tristan (Charlie Cox) is a simple boy living in a simple town trying to woo a very simple girl. When she tells him that he may win her love by retrieving a fallen star from the magical land that borders their simple town, he doesn't hesitate to embark on the adventure of his life. He meets characters like the witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), Captain Shakespeare (Robert DeNiro), the dead princes Secundus (Rupert Everrett) and Septimus (Mark Strong), a living breathing star (Claire Danes), Ferdy the Fence (Ricky Gervais) and a King played by Peter O'Toole. So maybe you're like me and have been turned off by movies like Valentine's Day to never trust a movie with a star studded cast. Not to fear! This one deserves all the stars...or else the stars deserve this movie. Either way you're sure to be to fan.

This flick really has it all. Comedy, Romance with a capital 'R', Suspense, Adventure with a capital 'A' and clever imagination with capitals C and I. It's one of the one's that slid under the radar 3 years ago when it hit theaters. I remember my husband and I didn't see anything at the box office we were interested in, that is, until I saw Claire Danes on the movie poster for this. I'm a huge fan of hers ever since My So-Called Life. We snatched up tickets and from the first few minutes we never regretted it.

Motherly Advice: With your filters set there is still going to be some suspenseful action and some implied premarital sex. Actually the original version is only implied as well. There's witches and attempted cutting out of young girls' hearts and one implied successful one. There is some murder (in a very comedic light) and sword fights and some cross dressing by Captain Shakespeare. I'd say with filtering this one would be appropriate for 13 year olds.
